Privacy on the front pages (and in this email)

Dear Avaazers,

Facebook's revelations have put protecting privacy on the front pages and front of mind for many of us. So the Avaaz staff wanted to let you know how Avaaz deals with your data and get feedback from the community. And there are some new changes to that plan which mean after May 5th, you will have more control over, and protection for, your personal information.

The Privacy Policy is now easier to read (yay!) and gives more details about how Avaaz protects personal data. It describes that your info is never rented or sold, and the new policy gives you details on how and why data is shared. And you now have more ways to control your data. The policy also describes when consent is used to process data and introduces Avaaz's Data Protection Officer who can answer questions or feedback at any time. You can reach Ben the DPO here.

The Terms of Use are now also easier to read and shorter and make sure everyone knows they are responsible for the content they contribute to Avaaz (like starting a petition which anyone can do here). Avaaz makes sure that no content endangers or undermines the Avaaz mission (find that here! along with many of our recent victories together) and clarifies that content you contribute belongs to you, but Avaaz has permission to display, reuse, and share it to further the mission.

The full policies are here: Privacy Policy, Terms of Use and Cookie Policy
. And it would be amazing to hear what you think of them — this survey only takes a few minutes: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/K8F6BWT.

With hope and gratitude for this amazing community,

Emma and the rest of the Avaaz team

Dear friends,

Right now, across the world billions of bees are dying. But, in 36 hours the EU could TOTALLY BAN toxic bee-killing pesticides!

Top scientists and farmers' unions are calling for a banthe European public massively supports it, and France, the UK, Germany and 9 other countries are in favour. But we need four more countries on board to win the vote on Friday. If Europe moves -- we can get the whole world to follow.

This is down to the wire and every voice counts -- join in and share this everywhere today:

Click to ban the bee-killers!

The US and Europe are seeing bees die out at a terrifying rate. And because they pollinate our crops, our whole food chain is under threat!

But big chemical companies that sell pesticides are lobbying the EU to delay. So Avaazers across Europe are frantically calling their Ministers, running ads, and building the pressure.

Now, we need to make this the biggest public petition ever for the bees. Join in and and share this everywhere:

Click to ban the bee-killers!

The Avaaz community has led the charge to ban neonicotinoids, for years. Now we're days away from getting this poison banned for good in Europe -- let's build a swarm of hope for our bees.

With hope,
Alice, Antonia, Lisa, Nick, and the whole Avaaz team

Cooked alive on the ships of death

Every year, tens of thousands of animals are crammed into ships where they slowly cook alive in the heat. Now Australia, the biggest livestock exporter, is investigating. So let's quickly build a giant call on the Agriculture minister to ban livestock exports and get other countries to follow suit to stop these cruel death ships!

Dear friends,

The whistleblower video I just watched made me feel sick. It shows thousands of sheep, crammed into a filthy ship, slowly cooking alive in blazing heat.

And unless we act now, it'll happen again!

Every year, tens of thousands of animals are loaded into these death ships to be shipped around the world for slaughter. But right now we have a rare chance to stop them -- the world's biggest livestock exporter Australia has been rocked by the shocking footage, and the agriculture minister has ordered an urgent investigation.

Let's build a massive global call to end live exports, force Australia to act, and pile pressure on countries around the world to follow. When our call is massive we'll deliver it direct to Australia's agriculture minister -- sign now to sink the ships of death!

Click to end cruel live exports

The live export trade is horrific. Cattle and sheep are loaded onto boats by the tens of thousands, trapped in overcrowded conditions without access to water and food. But the worst part is the heat -- the temperatures they face are so extreme that vets say they are literally cooked alive. Then the dead animals are thrown overboard to conceal the evidence!

Now a brave whistleblower has made shocking footage public and this deadly trade's stranglehold on regulators has weakened. All over the world governments are reviewing their policies on live exports -- so let's build a giant call for to end this horror-show, before the moment passes.

We'll start with Australia, a kingpin in the global live export trade. Add your name now to demand an end to this outrage -- and when our call is huge, we'll feed it directly into his urgent review. Join now to sink these ships of death!

Click to end cruel live exports

Avaazers have stood up for farm animals being tortured time and time again. We've powered undercover investigations in slaughterhouses, and demanded an end to horse blood farms. Now it's time to take on the live export trade.

In shock and determination,
Bert, Rewan, Ana Sofía and
 the entire Avaaz team
