Avaaz is urgently trying to help at least 50 women escape the Taliban. They are activists who had the courage to protest against one of the most brutal regimes on earth. In Afghanistan, the Taliban has essentially made it illegal to be a woman. They can't get an education, go out alone, or even sing in public. So when women dared to speak out, they were beaten and hunted by the morality police. Many fled to Pakistan with their families. But now, they're about to be sent back -- and the Taliban is waiting. The women face being tortured or raped. For many, deportation is a death sentence. This is a fundraiser to help them escape. We're close to securing expedited visas for many of the women most in danger, but now we need funding for the actual relocations. Your donation would fund visas, emergency travel, and legal expenses -- helping dozens of women to find safety in a new country. And that's just the beginning. Together we'll also support Afghan women to raise their voices for justice at the world's highest court, where a historic case against the Taliban could soon be brought. But there's no time to lose. Two women have just been deported, and police are going door-to-door. Your donation is an urgent lifeline. Please give what you can now:
Dear friends, | Avaaz is urgently trying to help at least 50 women escape the Taliban.
Your donation is an urgent lifeline. Please give what you can now: | | | | | | | Countless Afghan women are fearless community organisers: running underground classrooms, defying bans with protests, and airing radio shows. Those in exile are even launching online schools -- because they're not waiting for permission to build a better future. Under Taliban rule, women in Afghanistan can't learn, travel, or even see the doctor alone. Activists have been tortured and disappeared, and many fled to neighbouring Pakistan. Now they're in danger of being sent back -- but together we can help them relocate safely.Over 430,000 of us signed Avaaz's petition to protect Afghan women's activists. Together with partners, we're now close to securing emergency travel documents for many of the activists most at risk. But relocation is expensive, and we don't yet have enough for everyone to escape. If we raise enough, we could:- Evacuate Afghan women's rights defenders to safer countries, before they're forced back into the Taliban's hands;
- Fund emergency visas, safe housing and medical care for survivors stranded in Pakistan -- some hiding in abandoned buildings to avoid arrest;
- Strengthen the planned case against the Taliban at the International Court of Justice, collecting testimonies and supporting Afghan activists to share their stories with the world;
- Support Avaaz's frontline campaigns for democracy, and women's and human rights, building a rebellion against rising authoritarianism around the world.
The Taliban know Afghan women will not give up. That's why they're cracking down on the very activists who are leading the resistance in Afghanistan and abroad. If thousands of us from across the world give just a little, we could provide the urgent help they need to survive. Please donate what you can now: | | | | | | This isn't just about justice for the women of Afghanistan, it's about protecting future generations of women around the world. And while the road to true accountability is long, we can start by gathering every name, every story, every truth the Taliban has tried to bury. Together, we can keep fighting for the future that every woman and girl deserves.
With hope and determination,
