#AllForTheAmazon

Brazil's President was about to destroy a piece of the Amazon the size of Denmark -- until Brazilian Avaazers created a nationwide backlash.
We are already winning! Our 800k petition to save the Amazon was delivered Wednesday in Congress and a judge just decided Temer can't move further on these evil plans for the Amazon. Let's keep the pressure up and build the biggest movement to protect Amazon ever! Join us, sign and share!

Temer was on track to destroy a piece of the Amazon the size of Denmark -- until Brazilian Avaazers created a nationwide backlash and forced him to back down! But to stop more Amazon destroying bills now in line to be passed, we need to take this momentum and turn it into a global scandal. In less than two weeks, Brazil's President will face fellow leaders and the global media at a major UN summit in New York -- let's meet him with a million people worldwide backing Brazil's call -- All for the Amazon!
ADD MY NAME
Dear friends,

The checks have been handed out, and now Temer is paying the agribusiness caucus back for the votes he bought -- the price is a massive piece of the Amazon!

Now Congress wants to approve several laws to open swaths of the Amazon the size of hundreds of soccer fields in the heart of the forest to mining, logging and cattle ranching. But we can stop this nonsense!

Last week, Temer quietly approved the deforestation of an area equivalent to the size of Denmark but Brazilian Avaazers created a nationwide backlash and forced him to back down!

But we have to keep fighting: he's trying to pass a similar bill anytime now that will be assessed by a special committee, and we need to pressure them to abandon it once and for all. Sign now and share with everyone:

Sign to stop Amazon destruction!

It's the second time they've tried to approve this law in less than two months. But now the bill has come and Temer is desperate to pay back the MPs whose votes he bought to protect him from the corruption investigation. It's all connected... the ruralistas voted to protect him, they own or are financed by companies in the agribusiness, mining and logging: coincidentally, all the activities that will be, round the clock, legalized with this law. And that's just the beginning!

This law will give a subsidy of R$605 million to landgrabbers, so they can buy the lands they illegally invaded...it's SURREAL! These landgrabbers besides illegally deforesting the Amazon for years, are directly linked to violent massacres of the local population and indigenous people that were trying to resist the invasions.

Their violence and illegality is now being REWARDED.

Let's make sure the Congress and Temer know we are vigilant, and that we'll react every single time they try to take away our rights and those of our next generations! The Amazon needs us:

Sign to stop Amazon destruction!

Every piece of forest we can protect is a victory for the planet's biodiversity, and a blow to those who try to profit from the heritage of humanity. Our community already fought to save many natural areas across the world, let's unite again and protect this precious piece of the Amazon.

With hope and determination,

Flora, Carol, Laura, Nana, Diego and the rest of the Avaaz team.

This is as bad as it gets

Dear friends,

Honestly, this is as bad as it gets.

In Yemen, every 10 minutes a child dies from malnutrition, 500,000 people have been hit by the worst cholera epidemic ever recorded -- and a savage Saudi bombing campaign is cutting off aid access.

It's an apocalyptic scenario for these innocent people -- but we can help.

Most of us have never heard of this nightmare because Saudi Arabia has blocked foreign journalists from the country. They want to keep the impact of their campaign out of the headlines -- so that our governments can keep selling them tanks, missiles, and ammunition.

And it's working -- our leaders are turning a blind eye. But Avaaz is unique -- our money comes from ordinary citizens with no policy agenda. We can be a lifeline for Yemen's people:
  • Smuggling reporters into the country to expose what's happening;
  • Going after donor countries to increase humanitarian funding, now;
  • Lobbying countries like Canada and the UK to stop supplying the weapons that make all this possible.
The sad truth is: if we don't do this, no one will. 20 million(!) Yemenis desperately need aid -- chip in and let's get to work:

Saudi Arabia's devastating bombing campaign in Yemen is all about a power struggle with Iran. They say they're defending the 'legitimate' government against a group of rebels. But this isn't about democracy, it's about regional influence.

Innocent Yemeni civilians are the victims, much like their brothers and sisters in Syria, but without global attention. Yemen was already the poorest country in the region and now hospitals, schools, and entire neighbourhoods have been turned to rubble. The latest craziness is that Saudi Arabia is blocking fuel for UN planes ready to deliver humanitarian aid into the country!

What might be worst is that the Saudis aren't doing this alone. Many of our governments are making it possible by supplying weapons, military advice, and even boots on the ground. Trump just kicked off a $100 billion arms deal! For our leaders, Saudi friendship and oil seem more important than Yemeni lives.

We don't have to be part of that. If enough of us donate below, we can show the people of Yemen that we are not our governments, that we care about the desperate situation they're facing, and will fight to stop the bombing of innocent civilians. Some courageous groups are trying to make this work, but right now no one has got it done. Let's come together urgently, before things get even worse:

We can cross our fingers that Yemen will somehow be saved. Or we can do what our community does best and rise up to speak for those who have no voice. Let's not sit in silence.

With hope,
Danny, Rewan, Alice, Allison, Wissam, Nataliya, Ricken, and the entire Avaaz team

Stop Trump’s internet takeover — in 2 days!

Trump is forcing a company to turn over the personal details of everyone who visited an anti-Trump website! He could do whatever he wants with this kind of power, like helping his dictator friends crack down on their citizens. Lawyers are taking him to court and if a million of us file a brief with the judge, it could have a huge impact on the case. Add your name and let's stop Trump's internet takeover!

Dear friends,

Trump is forcing an internet provider to turn over the personal details of 1.3 million people who visited an anti-Trump website! From anywhere in the world!

But we have 2 days to stop him.

This could impact all of us -- over half of the world's websites are hosted in the US. And Trump can do whatever he wants with the data, like give it to dictator friends to help them crack down on their own citizens.

Lawyers are taking him to court, but they'll focus on the impact on Americans. The judge can also consider the rights of non-US citizens and if we bring a court filing backed by a million people around the world, arguing that our rights are at risk too, it could have a huge impact on the case!

Add your name urgently -- the hearing is on Thursday and Avaaz staff is getting ready to file our brief to the court in front of the media:

Click to stop Trump's Internet takeover

This kind of power would mean that Trump could demand the IP addresses and behaviour of every visitor to Avaaz's website too. Or Wikipedia or Youtube. Under US law, American citizens would have protections for what he can do with their information, but the rest of us would have nothing. It would transform our free internet into a big brother state with Trump at the helm.

We can't let it happen.

Thankfully, US law could stop him if the judge feels like the threat to privacy outweighs Trump's "security" concerns. And the fact that his first victims are visitors to a website directly protesting his power is a mark in our favour. But the argument is even stronger if we can show the danger this power holds for foreign website visitors who have no protection under US law and could be jailed or worse simply for signing a petition!

Let's add our voices now, and make sure the judge knows that his decision will affect the whole world!

Click to stop Trump's Internet takeover

The internet is more than just another issue, it's what empowers our movement to connect as human beings and win strategic fights that lift all of us up. This is our chance to make sure it doesn't get overrun by Trump and his cronies!

With hope,

Danny, Mia, Anne, Andrew, Martyna, Ricken and the rest of the Avaaz team
