My 21-year-old boy Ali is dead because of BP's toxic gas clouds. I am willing to take them to court to demand they stop the deadly gas flaring that took my son and is cooking our planet. Your support can escalate my demands to make sure he didn't die in vain. My name is Hussein, and my 21-year-old boy Ali is dead due to toxic gas flaring on BP oil fields in Iraq.Gas flaring releases cancer-causing fumes like benzene that trigger a slow, painful death for innocent people, and it emits tonnes of methane, heating up our planet. I just told BP I'm going to sue them if they don't stop gas flaring -- and if people all across the planet join my call, we can turn this into a perfect storm to make BP fear for their reputation. Will you help me stop this methane bomb and save other children like my Ali? | My 21-year-old boy Ali is dead because of BP's toxic gas clouds. I am willing to take them to court to demand they stop the deadly gas flaring that took my son and is cooking our planet. Your support can escalate my demands to make sure he didn't die in vain. | | | Dear Avaaz community, | My name is Hussein, and my 21-year-old boy Ali is dead due to toxic gas flaring on BP oil fields in Iraq.
Gas flaring releases cancer-causing fumes like benzene that trigger a slow, painful death for innocent people, and it emits tonnes of methane, heating up our planet.
I just told BP I'm going to sue them if they don't stop gas flaring -- and if people all across the planet join my call, we can turn this into a perfect storm to make BP fear for their reputation.
Will you help me stop this methane bomb and save other children like my Ali? Add your name. | | | I cannot stay silent for Ali. The air we breathe is suffocating us. BP's flaring in Rumaila emitted 3.7 million tonnes of CO2 in 2021 – more than the yearly emissions of 2 million cars in the UK!
Flaring also releases benzene, which the World Health Organization has linked to cancer. But this practice is avoidable. It's high time that shareholders take responsibility and demand the new BP CEO end gas flaring across the world.
But I don't want to take on this fight alone! I'd love to face BP with the voices of hundreds of thousands Avaaz members backing my simple message: stop the fumes poisoning our children. Join me. | | The Avaaz movement has stood up to fossil fuel giants for nearly two decades, and I hope you will stand up to BP with me now. Together, we can fight for a better, more honest world. One where people everywhere can live freely and safely, breathing air that doesn't kill us but that fuels us.
With hope and determination,
Hussein Julood Hameed Almuaardha with the Avaaz team | | | | |
