Scientists' SOS for Earth

Take Action Now!
Dear friends,

15,000 scientists have sent out an SOS -- a "warning to humanity" that if we don't stop polluting, our planet is doomed.

The facts are terrifying: species are going extinct at 1000 times the natural rate. 90% of the Great Barrier Reef is dead or dying. Oceans are so choked with plastic that fish are addicted to eating it.

But scientists have discovered something else -- a kind of miracle that could save us. If we can protect half our planet from human exploitation, our ecosystem will be able to stabilise and regenerate. Life on earth will recover!

Our governments have already promised to protect a quarter of the planet, so we know it's possible. But no other global movement is championing this miracle recovery plan!

It's up to us.

If 20,000 of us chip in just the cost of a cup of coffee a week, we can make the proposal famous, face down the polluters and poachers, and campaign to get leaders to drive through a deal to save the planet at the Global Summit on Biodiversity -- starting at a major summit in Egypt this week!

Chip in now -- let's bring this miracle recovery plan for our planet to life:

I'LL DONATE R$5 WEEKLY
I'LL DONATE R$15 WEEKLY
I'LL DONATE R$25 WEEKLY
OTHER AMOUNT
Right now we're destroying intricate ecosystems and hurtling towards tipping points that'll collapse the delicate balance of life on earth, making it uninhabitable for humans. Protecting 50% of the planet would unleash the magic of nature and turn things around -- but almost no one knows about the extent of this crisis, or this inspiring proposal.

Many conservation experts already agree it's exactly what the planet needs now. And the crucial Biodiversity Summit in 2020 could adopt it as a global goal if the groundwork is laid at meetings like this week's in Egypt.

But it won't happen without us.

Avaaz has the national depth, global breadth, and ambition to drive forward a huge idea like this. When we first launched our 100% clean energy campaign in 2013, many said it was unrealistic. But in 24 months, every government in the world agreed with us.

We've got 24 months again. Chip in just a small amount a week to make it happen:

I'LL DONATE R$5 WEEKLY
I'LL DONATE R$15 WEEKLY
I'LL DONATE R$25 WEEKLY
OTHER AMOUNT
Our movement doesn't have enormous amounts of money, but time and again, with thousands of small donations, we're able to turn the common sense of scientists into a public movement that makes political leaders listen. Let's each chip in today and drive this miracle idea into the mainstream, to save our living planet.

With hope and determination,

Danny, Alice, Allison, Camille, Martyna, Jenny, Rosa and the rest of the Avaaz team

We wiped out TWO-THIRDS of them

Poachers are chopping off faces and paws off lions. The king of the jungle is under threat, along with much of the world's wildlife -- and scientists say the best way to help is to agree a bold plan to protect half our planet. Avaaz staff are meeting top government officials THIS WEEK -- add your voice urgently to the global campaign to protect nature.

Dear friends,

A new report says poachers are now chopping off lions' faces and paws to sell on the black market -- the majestic king of the jungle is already vulnerable and this could push them to the brink.

It's not just lions. One by one, we're killing off our wondrous wild neighbours -- we've wiped out nearly TWO-THIRDS of animal populations in just the last 50 years!

But there's a way to fix this. Scientists say if we urgently protect half our planet, it will let natural ecosystems recover and regenerate, and give wildlife a chance to thrive. The problem is, their voices alone aren't being heard -- governments listen to people, so it's our job to bring this emergency recovery plan to their attention.

Avaaz
staff will take our voices to top government officials *this week* to ask them to back this plan. Add your name to the global campaign for nature and let's fight for the future of all species:

Yes, I'll support the global deal for nature

It's dire -- humanity is taking a chainsaw to the tree of life. Poaching, habitat destruction, climate change -- we're pushing our fellow plants and animals to the edge. And humans too -- the UN's biodiversity chief just said we may become the first species to document our own extinction! We can't fight this in a silo -- we've got to transform our relationship to nature before our planet's life support system collapses.

Good news is that momentum is gaining towards the expert-backed plan to set aside half the land and sea for nature, managing the rest sustainably to provide for human needs, to restore harmony with the planet. But governments
need to know the plan is popular.

So it's on us to make it famous! Governments only agreed to 100% clean energy after we campaigned for years to build a resounding call that was impossible to ignore.

Let's do the same for nature -- add your name as Avaaz staff meet with top negotiators this week, and make sure our kids' favourite animals live on not just in our imagination:

Yes, I'll support the global deal for nature

Our movement has campaigned to create massive marine reserves across our global oceans, and gone after poaching rings that threaten elephants and rhinos. From the Amazon to Borneo to the Galapagos, we've shown up again and again in defense of our fellow plants and animals that share the planet with us. It's time to build on all those victories and win a visionary global deal that protects the entire tree of life... before it's too late.

With hope and determination,

Risalat, Danny, Alice, Rosa, Diego, and the rest of the Avaaz team
