Volunteers gather to chop vegetables, prepare food, and make sure families who've lost almost everything can still eat a dignified meal. Many have been displaced themselves. Since the war began, more than 14 million people have been forced from their homes and half the population is facing acute hunger. It is the largest humanitarian crisis on Earth, yet world leaders have failed to stop it, and humanitarian aid isn't reaching those who need it. So Sudanese communities have built their own lifelines.
Neighbours, mothers, doctors, and citizens began organising community kitchens. They started volunteer-run medical clinics. They distributed food packs and essential items to families fleeing unimaginable violence. In many places, they became the only safety net available.
That's why Avaaz members' support has been so important. It has put resources directly into the hands of people risking everything to keep their communities alive.
The smile says more than we ever could. This woman received bedding and emergency shelter materials from a community emergency room in Central Darfur, where famine and displacement have upended countless lives. Our donations have reached over 420,000 people, and counting.

Our donations have helped to fund dozens of community kitchens and emergency rooms. We've helped civilians escape areas under shelling, supported mothers giving birth in the middle of war, and helped food reach communities that had gone months with little or no aid. None of this ends the suffering in Sudan. But because Avaaz members chose to not look away, hundreds of thousands of people received support when they needed it most.
The crisis is immense and our work is far from over. The real heroes at the heart of this effort are still there, doing everything they can to serve their communities. And I know we'll keep supporting them too. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for making this work possible.
