Dear Avaazers,
It's really beautiful.
Trump promotes his far-right friends in European elections, and they're destroyed at the ballot box. Then he tries to tank global efforts on climate change, and the entire world unites against him!
These weren't accidents, they were hard-won, people-powered victories -- a central focus of all our movement's work this year.
But we need to do it again and again. Trump is pushing war in the Middle East, and cheering neo-fascists from Turkey to Poland. He just cut foreign aid for women's health that will kill 14 women per day. But what if we get the world to urgently mobilise to fill the funding gap for women, and even increase aid?! Again and again, we can isolate Trump, and get a win for the world.
Avaaz is the epicenter of the global resistance to Trump, and our pressure is working -- let's ratchet it up. All our work is 100% funded by small online donations. Chip in the cost of a drink or a meal below to power our fight. Together, we won't just limit the damage from this leader, we can use his threat to unite the world like never before:
When Trump pulled out of the Paris climate agreement, a million
Avaazers had already appealed for months to US Mayors and Governors to "bypass Trump" with their own climate action. From online campaigns to high level meetings, we pressed dozens of countries to stand firm, and they did.
At the G20 summit Trump desperately tried to recruit his last potential ally on climate - Saudi Arabia. But we ran full page ads that embarrassed the Saudi leader and shaped media coverage. Trump was left isolated and alone.
And just months ago, everyone feared a "Trump wave" in Western Europe, with the far right rising in the polls. Avaaz
went all out in election campaigns from the Netherlands to France to the UK, contributing to decisive defeats of the far right everywhere. With 6% of the population of France subscribing to Avaaz, and similar levels in other countries, our movement played a valuable role online and offline.
We need to ratchet this up. Trump is building an alliance of autocrats to destroy decades of progress on human rights, attacking internet neutrality, backing the brutal war in Yemen, and so much more.
A tiny number of Avaazers provide the funding for all we do to stop him -- chip in the cost of a drink or a meal: History is decided by the sum total of individual decisions, each and every day, that each of us make. We the people make our own fate. The worst leaders in our history have always been supported by many decent people who just didn't know better. But the stark truth we must face is that today's neo-fascists threaten everything we love, and they are doing so with unprecedented sophistication. They could win, and we can't afford to be lazy. Our parents and grandparents stood on a wall to protect humanity and carry our people forward. It's our turn. Let's not fail those to come after us.
With hope and gratitude for each person in this amazing community,
Ricken, Alice, Danny, Oli, Marigona and the whole Avaaz team
