Millions of people, countless species, and trees depend on the Amazon River — but now the Brazilian President is pushing to drill for oil.
| The most massive river in the world could soon be poisoned to death. 30 million people and countless species depend on the Amazon River — but now Brazil's President is pushing to drill for oil where the river meets the ocean. He's about to auction off 47 new oil drilling sites and only a massive global outcry can stop it. Add your name and share with your friends before the poison spreads: | | | Dear friends, | The Amazon could be poisoned to death. If we don't stop the next oil drilling projects, the mouth of the Amazon River could soon bleed black poison.
Brazil's government knows the risks, which is why it is split. But President Lula insists on opening 47 new oil drilling sites where the Amazon River meets the ocean – threatening the survival of the world's most massive river, the beating artery of this lush rainforest.
Environmental concerns have held off one major project so far, but Lula is about to open much of the region to Big Oil. A massive global outcry is needed to show Lula that this could destroy the Amazon – and his legacy – forever.
Together we can still stop this new phase of massive oil drilling. The facts are on our side. And experts say Lula is more vulnerable than ever. Add your name now and we will deliver our message to President Lula before the poison spreads: | | | No river on Earth moves more water than the Amazon. Its waters sustain over 30 million people, including hundreds of Indigenous Peoples nations across several countries. It could all be doomed.
The risks are evident. In total, 731 accidents were recorded at some stage of offshore oil exploration in 2024. This equates to an average of two accidents per day.
Opening this new region to oil drilling will not only increase these proven dangers, and risk poisoning the Amazon. It would send the worst possible signal: that Brazil is doubling down on oil while we desperately need to phase out fossil fuels.
This year, President Lula is set to host the world's biggest climate summit. We need to show him exactly where the world stands on climate action to push him to reject these reckless projects: | | For years, our community has fought for the Amazon and spoke truth to the climate crisis. This year, we must rise higher than ever — and show world leaders that the fire in our hearts burns for a clean, just, and sustainable future.
